Alcohol & Drug-free Policy

Alcohol & Drug-free Policy

Welcome to the Los Angeles Film Festival.

It is the policy of FILM INDEPENDENT and the Los Angeles Film Festival to maintain a alcohol and drug-free workplace. As set forth in the Alcohol and Drug Policy, the manufacture, distribution, dispensing, possession, sale, use, or being under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance is prohibited in the workplace. Any violation of this policy will result in discipline, up to and including termination. Driving a FILM INDEPENDENT vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or an illegal controlled substance is strictly prohibited.

The following policy addresses drug and alcohol use by employees, volunteers, and contract employees of FILM INDEPENDENT and the Los Angeles Film Festival. This policy has been adopted to promote a safe, healthy, and productive work environment for all, to maintain the good reputation of FILM INDEPENDENT and its employees, and to reduce the incidence of accidental injury to persons and property.

a. Conduct During Working Hours

The following rules govern conduct during working hours, which includes all hours in which activities or duties are performed on behalf of FILM INDEPENDENT and the Los Angeles Film Festival, whether on or off company or venue premises.

1. All employees, volunteers, and contracted staff are prohibited from possession, purchase, transfer, use, or being under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs before or during their assigned working hours or shifts and when attending events authorized by FILM INDEPENDENT and the Los Angeles Film Festival. At such authorized events, whether working or not, employees, volunteers, and contracted staff are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner. Excessive use of alcohol or inappropriate behavior as a result of alcohol use is not considered to be professional behavior and will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination.

2. Prescription drugs may be used during working hours only by the person for whom the drug was prescribed and only in the manner, combination and quantity prescribed. Employees whose work involves the operation of a vehicle or equipment shall inform management in advance of their use of prescription drugs, which may impair their judgment and performance.

3. Any violation of these rules will result in disciplinary action, including termination.

b. Conduct Outside of Working Hours

The following rules govern employee, volunteer, and contracted staff conduct before or after working hours of the Los Angeles Film Festival.

1. Any employee, volunteer, or contracted staff whose off-duty use of alcohol, illegal drugs or prescription drugs results in excessive absenteeism, excessive tardiness, accidents, or poor work performance will be subject to disciplinary action, including termination.

2. Any employee, volunteer, or contracted staff who is convicted of a crime involving alcohol or illegal drugs, whether the employee’s conduct was during or outside of working hours, shall be subject to disciplinary action, including termination.
