For ten days each June, nearly 100,000 people descend on the Los Angeles Film Festival to see and celebrate the best of independent American and international cinema. We rely on the help of hundreds of volunteers and interns to make the Festival a remarkable experience for everyone who attends.

2008 LOS ANGELES FILM FESTIVAL VOLUNTEER/INTERN AGREEMENT

This Agreement confirms your agreement to participate as a Volunteer/Intern for the 2008 Los Angeles Film Festival. Film Independent, a nonprofit organization, runs the Festival. As you will be a Volunteer/Intern at the Festival, and not an employee of Film Independent, you will not receive any compensation or benefits accorded to employees. In other words, you will not be paid for any volunteer/intern services, nor are you entitled to any health benefits, life insurance, workers’ compensation, or any other benefits usually associated with employment.

This Agreement sets forth the entire understanding between you and Film Independent/Los Angeles Film Festival. Any modifications must be agreed to by Film Independent/Los Angeles Film Festival and you and set forth in writing signed by both parties. By submitting this application, you acknowledge that you understand and agree to the following:

• You will attend all mandatory trainings and other events listed on the Volunteer/Intern Assignment.
• You are expected to complete the shifts set forth in your pre-assigned schedule and should not arrive late or leave early.
• As the Festival events are ongoing throughout the day, Volunteers/Interns may be needed throughout most of the day. You should be prepared to volunteer your services beyond the pre-assigned schedule.
• While Volunteers/Interns may attend films, panel discussions, and parties that fall outside of the pre-assigned schedule, volunteer assignments have first priority and you should not expect to attend Festival events during your pre-assigned schedule. Similarly, you should not expect to participate in the event for which you are volunteering your services.
• Volunteers/Interns must refrain from self-promotion, or any other conduct that would jeopardize the reputation of Film Independent/Los Angeles Film Festival in the Community during the Festival.
• Volunteers/Interns must return any equipment used during the course of the Festival in good working condition.
• Volunteers/Interns must return the Volunteer/Intern Evaluation (included in Check-In packets) to the Volunteer Office.
• Volunteers/Interns must contact the Volunteer Office immediately with any concerns or problems, including but not limited to problems with Festival attendees or Film Independent employees.
• In appreciation of your volunteer services, Film Independent/Los Angeles Film Festival will provide you with a Volunteer t-shirt, four screening vouchers that can be traded in for admission to screenings, coffee talks or panel discussions, and a Volunteer Badge, which allows you unlimited admission, on a space available basis, to regularly priced films/events and the Target Red Room before 6pm.
• If you fail to comply with the agreements set forth above, you will not be eligible to receive the volunteer appreciation items, your badge will be revoked and you may not be allowed to continue to volunteer at the Festival.

I understand and agree to the rules set forth above. I understand and agree that my participation is as a volunteer/intern only and that I do not expect to receive compensation or benefits. I also understand and agree that I assume any and all risks that may arise out of my participation as a volunteer/intern for the Los Angeles Film Festival. I therefore release Film Independent, Los Angeles Film Festival, their agents and employees from any and all liability that may arise out of or in connection with my participation in the Film Festival, including but not limited to potential claims for any damages, costs, attorneys’ fees or other legal relief of any kind. I further understand and agree to indemnify and hold Film Independent, Los Angeles Film Festival, their agents and employees, harmless from any such claims or legal actions arising out of or relating to my participation as a volunteer/intern for the Film Festival.
