Dan Dunne is a committed teacher, diverging from his school’s narrow curriculum to coach his students in dialectics and the lessons of the civil rights movement. But outside of the classroom, Dan is a mess, drinking and drugging away his after-school hours. When one of his students discovers him in a drugged stupor, a strange alliance starts to grow between them. The film views its two troubled souls without judgment, creating a remarkable study of both the limits and possibilities of friendship.
