Gangster chic, rebel cool, outlaw style — whatever you call it, Perry Henzell’s 1973 film casts a glamorous sheen over life outside the law. Singer Jimmy Cliff gives a charismatic performance as a small-time Kingston hustler who becomes a local folk hero as his record shoots up the local charts while he stays one step ahead of the law. With a percolating soundtrack, the film was a key part of breaking reggae music and Jamaican culture to the world audience.
