In the second installment of his trilogy on loss and mourning, François Ozon exquisitely captures the inner turmoil of a young gay man facing his own death. When Romain learns he only has a few months to live he keeps it to himself, pushing away his lover and family as he prepares for the inevitable. Yet, he continues to be drawn to the living. Beautifully photographed and brilliantly acted, Ozon’s film demonstrates his masterful hand with complex characters and reaffirms his standing as one of France’s premiere directors.
