Allison Anders is a Peabody Award-winning Los Angeles-based independent filmmaker who, after the 1989 release of her acclaimed debut feature, Border Radio (co-written and co-directed with Kurt Voss), has established an innovative body of work that is marked by ensemble acting and strong female characters. Her films as writer-director also include Gas Food Lodging , Mi Vida Loca, Grace of My Heart, and Sugar Town; co-directed with Kurt Voss). Anders’ films have premiered at the Cannes International Film Festival and the Sundance Film Festival, and retrospectives of her work have been held all over the world, including the Karlovy Vary Film Festival in the Czech Republic. Anders’ forthcoming feature Strutter, co-directed with Kurt Voss, is a Kickstarter project and is 100% financed via crowd funding. Anders is also a distinguished Professor at UCSB and the recipient of a MacArthur Genius Grant.
